GTA 6 Platforms: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S

GTA 6 launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only. Here is what that means for PS5 Pro, Series S, PC and last-generation console owners.

Which platforms is GTA 6 on?

GTA 6 launches on 19 November 2026 on two platforms: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Those are the only platforms on Rockstar's official page. There is no version for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch at the time of writing (October 2026).

Take-Two's chief executive, Strauss Zelnick, summed it up at the company's annual meeting on 17 September 2026: "We're launching GTA 6 as a single player experience on two major platforms", as reported by Inven Global. Rockstar's pre-order announcement uses the same framing: "Grand Theft Auto VI is a single player experience".

PlayStation 5

Rockstar's page carries the line "Plays Best On PlayStation 5", and the Extended Look was "captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5", according to Rockstar. Rockstar has not explained what "plays best" means in technical terms.

On PS5 Pro, GTA 6 is listed as PS5 Pro Enhanced, according to HWBusters, but neither Sony nor Rockstar has said what that adds. It is the same game on both PS5 models.

Xbox Series X|S

Rockstar writes the Xbox listing as Xbox Series X|S, which covers both the Series X and the cheaper Series S. Rockstar has not published separate performance targets for the two, and the Series S has less memory and storage. Our Xbox Series S article covers what has been predicted for that console.

Otherwise the Xbox release matches PlayStation, as the list below shows. Xbox owners buy digital copies through the Microsoft Store, and the boxed version works the same way as on PS5.

Not on PC, PS4, Xbox One or Switch

No PC version has been announced. On Take-Two's May 2026 earnings call, Zelnick said "Rockstar Games has announced GTA 6 for console only so far", while noting that "virtually all of our hit titles end up on all platforms over time", as quoted by Wccftech. Our article on whether GTA 6 is coming to PC covers this in detail, and a separate article looks at how long Rockstar's earlier games took to reach PC.

GTA V reached three console generations, but GTA 6 has not been announced for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. Nothing has been announced for Nintendo Switch or any mobile platform either.

What is the same on both consoles

  • Release date: 19 November 2026.
  • Editions and prices: Standard at $79.99 and Ultimate at $99.99 in the US, as reported by MP1st, on both consoles.
  • Pre-load: digital pre-orders can pre-load from 12 November 2026.
  • Physical copies: the physical version contains a download code in the box and is available from 12 November to support pre-loading.
  • Pre-order bonus: Rockstar says pre-orders and purchases made before 20 November get the Vintage Vice City Pack. It includes the two-tone '55 Vapid Stanier sedan, a garage by Ocean Beach, outfits and hairstyles for Jason and Lucia, and a weapon pattern inspired by Tommy Vercetti's palm tree shirt.
  • GTA+: a free month is included with digital pre-orders; Rockstar's GTA VI page has the details.

How to check you are buying the right version

  1. Check that your console is a PS5 or an Xbox Series X|S. A PS4 or Xbox One cannot play GTA 6.
  2. Buy from the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store on that console, or check the platform printed on the box at a retailer.
  3. For a physical copy, redeem the download code on the console you will play on.
  4. Start the pre-load on that console from 12 November so the game is ready on release day.
