Grassrivers is Leonida's gator-filled wetland and Mount Kalaga its northern national landmark. Here is what Rockstar says about both.
Grassrivers and Mount Kalaga in brief
Grassrivers and Mount Kalaga are the two wilderness regions of GTA 6's state of Leonida. Grassrivers is a swampy expanse of mangroves and alligators, which outlets compare to the Everglades. Mount Kalaga is a forested national landmark up against the state's northern border, with hunting, fishing and off-road trails. Both have their own pages in Rockstar's 'Only in Leonida' section, with a tagline, a short description and screenshots.
Rockstar writes Grassrivers as one word. Some outlets split it into 'Grass Rivers' or spell the mountain 'Mount Kalaha', but Rockstar's spelling is Grassrivers and Mount Kalaga.
Grassrivers: what Rockstar says
Rockstar's tagline calls Grassrivers 'the untamable jewel of Leonida's crown'. The description reads: 'You never know what lies beneath the surface of this primordial expanse. The gators may be the most famous attraction, but there are far deadlier predators and weirder discoveries among the mangroves.'
That is all the official text, but it sets the tone: a beautiful, wild place where alligators are only the start of the danger.
Grassrivers: what outlets add
Outlets read the rest from Rockstar's screenshots. Game Informer calls it a 'swampy biome' that is 'full of danger', and suspects the deadlier predators are the wetland's 'intimidating, heavily armed residents'. PC Gamer's map guide compares it to the real Everglades and notes that almost every wetland screenshot in Rockstar's gallery includes a gator, or several. GamesRadar describes it as a hunters' paradise where buildings on stilts give way to the marshes, and warns that the other outdoorsmen you meet will be armed.
Those details are outlet interpretation. Rockstar has not said what you can do in Grassrivers beyond the description above.
Mount Kalaga: what Rockstar says
Rockstar's tagline for Mount Kalaga is 'Room to breathe on the state's northern fringes.' The description: 'A national landmark up against the state's northern border, Mount Kalaga offers prime hunting, fishing, and off-road trails. In the lush surrounding backwoods, hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals live far from the prying eyes of the government.'
Mount Kalaga also turns up in the Ultimate Edition. Rockstar pitches the '67 Vapid Dominator Buggy, a 'Mud Club monster', for offroad handling in 'the backwoods of Mount Kalaga and beyond'.
Mount Kalaga: what outlets add
PC Gamer, writing when the regions were revealed alongside Trailer 2 in May 2025, describes screenshots of kayakers paddling down riverways, camouflaged hunters under pine trees and a panther stalking deer. It compares the area to a slice of Red Dead Redemption 2 and to GTA 5's Mount Chiliad. GamesRadar lists deer and mountain lions to hunt, plus fishing, kayaking and off-road trails.
PC Gamer's map guide also makes a fair point: Rockstar's line about 'prime hunting, fishing, and off-road trails' describes the place, and is not a confirmed list of activities you can take part in.
How the two areas differ
- Terrain: Grassrivers is low, wet wetland and mangroves; Mount Kalaga is lush, forested backwoods on the northern border.
- Danger: Grassrivers' threat is what lies beneath the water; Mount Kalaga's is the people living off the grid.
- Getting around: Rockstar mentions off-road trails at Mount Kalaga and pitches an Ultimate Edition buggy for its backwoods; for Grassrivers it has said nothing about vehicles.
What is not confirmed
Rockstar has not published a detailed map, so the exact position and size of each area is unknown. It has not confirmed hunting or fishing as activities, or said whether story missions take place in either region. Our map regions article covers all six areas, and our map size article explains the reported size figures.
